SDSS J0903+5028: A New Gravitational Lens
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report the discovery of a new gravitationally lensed quasar from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, SDSS J090334.92+502819.2. This object was targeted for SDSS spectroscopy as a Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG), but manual examination of the spectrum showed the presence of a quasar at z ≃ 3.6 in addition to a red galaxy at z = 0.388, and Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, The University of Chicago, 5640 South Ellis Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637. A New Gravitational Lens Candidate with Large Image Separation in the SDSS DR5 Data
The discovery of a gravitational lens candidate is reported. The quasars SDSS J111611.73+411821.5 and SDSS J111610.68+411814.4 are recognized as two images of the same object, being strongly lensed by the closer galaxy SDSS J111611.03+411820.9. The source is located at a redshift of z ∼ 3, while the redshift of the lens galaxy is z ∼ 0.25. The separation of the images is large, ∼ 13 arcsec. Com...
متن کاملThe OLS–lens survey: The discovery of five new galaxy–galaxy strong lenses from the SDSS⋆
Bright galaxy–galaxy strong lenses are much more powerful than lensed quasars for measuring the mass profiles of galaxies, but until this year only a handful have been known. Here we present five new examples, identified via the optimal line–of–sight gravitational lens search strategy applied to luminous red galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Our survey largely complements a simil...
متن کاملA new gravitational lens from the MUSCLES survey: ULAS J082016.1+081216
We present observations of a new double-image gravitational lens system, ULAS J082016.1+081216, of image separation 2. 3 and high (∼6) flux ratio. The system is selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey spectroscopic quasar list using new high-quality images from the UKIRT Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS). The lensed quasar has a source redshift of 2.024, and we identify the lens galaxy as a faint red...
متن کاملThe Sloan Lens Acs Survey. I. a Large Spectroscopically Selected Sample of Massive Early-type Lens Galaxies
The Sloan Lens ACS (SLACS) Survey is an efficient Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Snapshot imaging survey for new galaxy-scale strong gravitational lenses. The targeted lens candidates are selected spectroscopically from within the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) database of galaxy spectra for having multiple nebular emission lines at a redshift significantly higher than that of the SDSS target ga...
متن کاملThree quasi-stellar objects acting as strong gravitational lenses⋆
We report the discovery of three new cases of quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) acting as strong gravitational lenses on background emission line galaxies: SDSS J0827+5224 (zQSO = 0.293, zs = 0.412), SDSS J0919+2720 (zQSO = 0.209, zs = 0.558), SDSS J1005+4016 (zQSO = 0.230, zs = 0.441). The selection was carried out using a sample of 22,298 SDSS spectra displaying at least four emission lines at a r...
